Seattle Rang Rasiya

~ Every Beat Tells a Story ~

Rang Rasiya is a Seattle-based dance ensemble dedicated to the preservation, evolution, and presentation of Garba and Raas, traditional folk dance forms originating from Gujarat, India. Historically performed in communal and ceremonial settings, these dances emphasize rhythm, circular movement, storytelling, and collective participation. Rang Rasiya approaches Garba and Raas as living traditions—deeply rooted in culture, yet capable of growth, experimentation, and contemporary expression.

The ensemble’s mission is to bring Garba and Raas into mainstream North American performance, educational, and cultural spaces, beyond their conventional presentation in festival or celebratory contexts. Through choreographed stage works, interactive workshops, and community-centered programming, Rang Rasiya reframes these folk forms as legitimate and expressive art forms, highlighting their technical complexity, musicality, and narrative potential.

Rang Rasiya is committed to cultural education and accessibility, with a particular focus on engaging youth and diverse audiences. By bridging tradition and contemporary performance practice, the ensemble fosters cross-cultural understanding while honoring the origins and integrity of Gujarati folk dance.
