Help Oakland's Newcomers feel warm and welcome.
This Giving Tuesday, donate to the Newcomer Coat Drive to give warm coats and essential supplies to Oakland's refugee, asylee, and unaccompanied minors.
Your gift provides warm coats and other essentials to Newcomer youth who urgently need your support.
Every year, the Oakland Unified School District (OUSD) welcomes thousands of Newcomer students — children and youth who have recently arrived in the U.S. as refugees, asylum seekers, and unaccompanied minors. They are adjusting to a new country, a new city, and often a new language.
OUSD’s Newcomer Programs work hard to provide specialized instruction, social-emotional support, and a sense of stability. Still, the reality is stark: many students arrive with only the clothes they traveled in, completely unprepared for Bay Area winter weather.
These students are eager to learn, but they face tremendous hardship — long journeys, family separation, trauma, and the challenge of starting over in a place where nothing feels familiar.
Let’s give Oakland’s Newcomer students a warm welcome to their new life.

About the Ed Fund
The Oakland Public Education Fund leads the investment of community resources in Oakland public schools so that all students can learn, grow, and thrive.
Since 2003, we have raised $275M+ for Oakland schools, placed over 17,500 volunteers in classrooms, and fiscally sponsored 150+ schools and education-based projects.
We support all Oakland public schools with a focus on those furthest from opportunity, because kids who come to school with less need more.
