About the Larry and Leslie Walker Family Scholarship
The Larry and Leslie Walker Scholarship was established in 2024 to recognize and honor the work and contributions of the Walker Family to MPC. The scholarship is designed to support student-athletes who identify as African American and who graduate and/or transfer from MPC to a four year institution.
Meet Destiney Urzua, the first recipient of the Larry and Leslie Walker Scholarship. Destiney dreams of being a psychologist so she can help people who struggle in silence. In Destiney's words:
"This scholarship reminds me that someone out there believes I can actually make it. It gives me the chance to focus more on my studies and less on how I am going to cover my next bill. You've made things a little easier, and for that, I am forever grateful."
