Can I give a gift of stock?
Yes! As a donor, you can transfer appreciated securities to the Educational Trust and receive a tax deduction. Work with your broker to transfer any appreciated securities to the Educational Trust. As you do, we ask that you let us know! Please contact Executive Director, Laura Landy (landry@chiphi.org) and inform her of the transfer and she will be sure to allocate the funds as requested and provide a tax receipt for you.

Can I transfer money from my IRA as a charitable gift to the Trust?
If you are 70 ½ or older, you can transfer up to $100,000 of IRA withdrawals each year directly to the Chi Phi Educational Trust without recognizing these withdrawals as income. This type of IRA withdrawal is known as a “Qualified Charitable Distribution (QCD)” and it will count toward satisfying the required minimum distribution you must take from your traditional IRA(s) each year after reaching age 70 ½.
