United Readers – Nevada’s most successful literacy intervention program – faced a large funding cut due to the nation-wide AmeriCorps grant terminations.
Now, we are asking for community support in forging the future of Nevada's children.
Here are the facts:
Nevada is facing an educational crisis - only 41% of Nevada third graders are reading at grade level and only 33% are proficient in math.
Children who don't read proficiently by third grade are four times more likely to drop out of high school.
75% of children who fall behind in reading by fourth grade never catch up.
The repercussions of these statistics ripple through our communities, affecting job readiness, economic stability, and the overall health of our state.
United Readers: A Proven Solution
Since 2019, United Readers has transformed educational outcomes by:
- Serving over 2,400 Nevada students across 25 elementary schools.
- Providing critical daily one-on-one and small-group literacy and math intervention.
- Supporting schools that qualify for Title I funds but currently receive none.
- Recently expanding to include essential math fluency skills.
