If you spend all your time chasing butterflies, they will fly away.
But if you spend your time making a beautiful garden,
they will come to you."

Legacy Park at NCS

At Nashville Christian School, our community is built on faith, family, and a shared commitment to the next generation. As we prepare to celebrate Grandparents Day, we would like to offer you an invitation. We invite you to take part in a special opportunity to leave a lasting legacy for your grandchildren and generations to come. We are excited to announce the construction of the Legacy Park at NCS, a beautifully designed outdoor space where students can learn, dine, and gather in a secure and serene environment. This park will include:

- A tiered and turfed seating area for outdoor classes and dining
- A security fence to ensure student safety, accent lighting creating a warm and welcoming atmosphere
- Lush landscaping with dozens of trees and plants
- Benches and picnic tables for relaxation and connection
- The return of the brick walkway, linking the upper and lower schools

Grandparents who contribute a minimum of $1,000 will have their names – and/or their grandchildren’s names – engraved on a brick in the walkway. Lead donors will also be honored on a special sign at the park’s entrance. Additional naming opportunities include benches and tables. As Nelson Henderson once said, “The true meaning of life is to plant trees under whose shade you do not expect to sit.” By giving to the Legacy Park at NCS, you are planting seeds of faith, learning, and love that will grow for years to come.

Why We Give
Huey and Tammy Gibbs

Being part of NCS is a meaningful way for us to express how deeply we value education, faith, and community. We are especially grateful to have two grandchildren, Cooper and Walker, enrolled in the preschool. It brings us so much joy to know they’ll grow up on a campus where faith is nurtured, community is celebrated, and strong academic foundations are built. It's important to us that they see us engaged in their educational journey—it shows them that we believe in the power of learning, in their unique gifts, and in the school that is shaping their futures. As I watched the new building take shape, I noticed that the courtyard between the two structures was untouched. Over time, I saw that little plot of grass become a special place—used by children, teachers, and families alike for outdoor learning, play, lunchtime picnics, and even tailgates. It struck me: What if this space could be more than just grass? What if it became a beautiful garden—one that welcomes everyone who steps onto this campus? A place that reflects our spirit of community, hospitality, and connection. A space that silently says, “You belong here. Come sit. Let us share something meaningful with you.”

I shared this idea with Board Member Joe Hamilton and landscape architect Gavin Duke about a year ago. I imagined a beautiful park-like garden filled with children’s laughter —but also benches, pathways, and places to pause. To my delight, they immediately caught the vision. Together, we dreamed of a garden that would attract visitors and invite them to stay, explore, and feel part of something special.

This garden is more than a landscape project. It’s an opportunity. As grandparents, there aren’t many chances to create something with our grandchildren that will outlive us both—a place Cooper and Walker can walk by and say, “That bench? Me and my Gigi and H made that happen.” So today, we invite you to join us in building this legacy. Please help us bring the garden to life. Whether dedicating a bench or table, planting a tree, sponsoring a space in your family's name, or contributing to key features like fencing, turf, or amphitheater seating, every gift helps tell our story and builds something lasting for generations. Let’s show our grandchildren what it means to plant roots that grow far beyond us.
