Oakland Families Need Your Help Now
URGENT Call to Action
for Our Community
Public education is at a turning point. Federal cuts to the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) have left thousands of Oakland families without enough to eat. When children are hungry, classrooms, families, and entire communities are disrupted.
These funding cuts—alongside rollbacks to other basic needs, diversity initiatives, and newcomer programs—are straining public education in Oakland, where schools serve as lifelines for students and families. Without strong, well-supported schools, we risk narrowing young people’s futures and weakening the foundation of a vibrant, inclusive, and resilient city.
That’s why the Oakland Public Education Fund created The POWER Fund (Providing Oakland With Educational Resources)—to protect and sustain critical food and basic needs support for our students and schools, shielding them from uncertainty. Your contribution directly fills the gap left by these cuts.

How Your Contribution Supports Oakland Students
In a city where groceries cost 16% more than the national average and families can spend up to $1,500 a month just to put food on the table, every contribution makes a real and immediate difference.
By giving to the POWER Fund, you help fill the gap left by federal cuts—providing fresh meals, weekend groceries, and stocked school pantries that keep Oakland’s students nourished and ready to learn.
By making your gift monthly, you create steady, reliable support that ensures no child goes hungry, no matter what happens at the federal or state level. Together, we can uphold Oakland’s promise: that every student has the strength, stability, and nourishment they need to thrive.
