Brittany Wilkinson was a bright, compassionate, and determined young woman who left an incredible legacy. Diagnosed with Mitochondrial Disease, she faced immense challenges but refused to let them define her. As the first Youth Ambassador for the United Mitochondrial Disease Foundation (UMDF), Brittany used her voice to raise awareness and advocate for others affected by this devastating illness.

Despite battling three life-threatening DNA mutations, severe pain, and hospitalizations, Brittany remained dedicated to making a difference. Even in the face of vision loss and overwhelming hardship, she chose to fight—not just for herself, but for all those living with Mitochondrial Disease. With her service dog, Freedom, by her side, Brittany inspired lawmakers, secured proclamations for Mitochondrial Awareness Week across the country, and touched countless hearts.

In honor of Brittany and the Wilkinson family of Clovis, California, we established the Brittany Wilkinson Research Fund through UMDF. Thanks to generous supporters, we’ve already raised over $70,000 for critical research. But there is still so much work to be done to support the UMDF misison.

The UMDF is dedicated to promoting research and education for the diagnosis, treatment, and cure of mitochondrial disorders. Their comprehensive approach goes beyond research:
Support: Providing emotional and practical support to patients and families affected by mitochondrial disease.
Advocacy: Working tirelessly to raise awareness and advocate for policies that support research funding and patient care.
Education: Offering educational resources to patients, families, and healthcare professionals to improve understanding and management of these complex diseases.

Your donation will help fund vital research in Brittany’s name, bringing us closer to better treatments and, one day, a cure, while also supporting UMDF’s mission to advance research, provide critical support, and advocate for all those affected by mitochondrial disease. Every contribution, big or small, makes a lasting impact.
