The Creative Industry Camp is Back!

Support Girls For A Change in helping young Black girls break barriers and thrive in creative industries!

After a pause due to the pandemic, Girls For A Change is thrilled to revive the Creative Industry Camp, a transformative program designed to provide young Black girls with access to creative spaces where they have historically lacked visibility due to limited opportunities, resources, and funding.

The impact of
Black creatives is undeniable, as highlighted in Reflections on the Impact of Black Creatives. Yet, many young Black women lack the support needed to pursue these careers. This program ensures they have the tools, exposure, and resources to thrive.

Why This Matters
Before the pandemic and the Black Lives Matter movement, we were on track to secure housing in New York for students pursuing internships, networking, and hands-on learning experiences. This initiative would have opened invaluable career pathways, particularly for those who could not afford to stay in NYC while exploring their dream careers.

Now, as we return to normalcy, we are committed to reigniting this program and expanding life-changing opportunities for these young women. We continue to explore how the creative industry has and hasn’t changed since the institutional responses to Black Lives Matter. The reality is,
Black girls remain underrepresented in creative industries - not because of a lack of talent - because of limited access to opportunities and resources.

This program is a direct response to that inequity, providing mentorship, exposure, and real-world experience to ensure these young women have a fair chance to thrive in the creative industry.

Spring Break 2025: A New Beginning

We are launching a Spring Break Camp from April 1st - April 5th, 2025, selecting 12 high school girls (9th-12th grade) from our Immersion Lab and Peer Advisor programs to participate. These young women will participate in exclusive workshops, panels, and hands-on experiences led by creative industry professionals and corporate partners.

This is more than just a trip. It’s a career-building experience

This experience will provide:
- Workshops & Training led by creative industry professionals
- Networking & Mentorship to build lasting connections
- Professional Development with attire, branding, and presentation training
- College Tours to explore educational opportunities
- Panel Discussions & Q&A Sessions with industry leaders
- Hands-On Creative Activities in various fields

Our goal is to inspire and support these young women, preparing them for a six-week summer internship in 2026 and equipping them with the skills to excel in the creative industry, whether as entrepreneurs, designers, storytellers, or business leaders.

Help Us Keep This Dream Alive

The Creative Industry Camp was launched before the Black Lives Matter movement ignited broader conversations about equity. Now, amidst setbacks to DEI efforts, we face new challenges in sustaining programs that uplift Black girls.

Without funding, our eight-year-old Creative Industry Spring Break Camp is at risk of being discontinued. This program is a proven pipeline for young talent, connecting businesses to diverse, future industry leaders.

Black girls remain underrepresented in the creative industry due to limited access to opportunities. This camp breaks barriers, fosters innovation, and helps these young women launch their careers.

Who is Eligible?
To participate, applicants must:
- Be a 10th-12th grade participant in the Girl Ambassador program
