Journey Through History and Art: Black Wall Street's Harlem Renaissance
Program Overview Welcome to an enriching program that bridges African American history from the Harlem Renaissance, through the Great Migration, to Black Wall Street in Tulsa, Oklahoma. Designed for young learners aged 6-18, this all-year program features weekly sessions in Seattle and Bellevue, WA. Participants will engage in hands-on creative projects, deeply exploring these pivotal moments in Black history while discovering their artistic passions.
Phase 1: The Harlem Renaissance Explore the cultural rebirth of the early 20th century through interactive presentations, creative workshops, and art projects inspired by iconic figures like Langston Hughes, Zora Neale Hurston, and Duke Ellington.
Phase 2: The Great Migration Understand the social, economic, and political factors that drove millions of African Americans to urban centers in the North and West between 1916 and 1970. Through storytelling sessions and collaborative projects, participants will connect with this significant movement.
Phase 3: Black Wall Street and the Greenwood District Delve into the thriving African American community in early 20th century Tulsa. Engage in mural creation, role-playing activities, and historical workshops to learn about Black Wall Street's development, success, and tragic destruction.
Lets Love STEMnasium Preschool to 9th graders and up, our STEMnasium program provides hands-on real-world work experience. Kids can apply what they’ve learned over the years, earning stipends while growing into the company with direct hire opportunities after program completion. Participants will use technology, healthy eating, discovery, community service, art, science, innovation, collaboration, and engineering, fostering a love for learning and growth in every child.
Healthy Mini Cupcake Creations In this workshop, kids dive into the world of baking while learning about nutritious ingredients and unleashing their creativity. From creating their own mini cupcake recipes to experimenting with healthy substitutions, kids will learn baking techniques, and decorate with colorful toppings like fresh berries and nuts. They'll share their creations, promoting healthy eating and creativity.
Community Service and Collaboration Kids come together to make a meaningful impact through community projects such as local clean-up events, volunteering at shelters, and assisting in community gardens. These activities foster teamwork, problem-solving skills, and leadership opportunities.
Community Garden: Cultivating Collaboration and Community Participants work in groups to plant, tend, and harvest various fruits, vegetables, and flowers, learning the importance of teamwork and sustainable gardening. They will collaborate with local gardeners and community members, culminating in a harvest festival to celebrate their hard work.
Culminating Event The program concludes with a showcase event featuring participants' artistic creations, including playhouses, murals, and performances by young musicians, poets, and singers. Family, friends, and community members will celebrate the children's achievements and learn about the rich cultural history.
Educational Impact Through this program, children will gain a deep appreciation for African American history, resilience, creativity, and entrepreneurial spirit. They will discover their artistic talents and passions in a supportive environment.

Location Highlight: Dr. Blanche Lavizzo Park With support from Allied Arts and fiscal sponsorship, we aim to transform Dr. Blanche Lavizzo Park into an immersive experience that renews and celebrates African American culture. Inspired by Dr. Lavizzo, this initiative will renew the park, bringing it back to life for our community and inspiring youth to dream and be part of a thriving, supportive environment.
