GET GIRLS IN THE GAME
More than one million teenage girls (43%) who once considered themselves ‘sporty’, disengage from sport following primary school.
Why?
• Fear of feeling judged by others (68%)
• Lack of confidence (61%)
• Pressures of schoolwork (47%)
• Not feeling safe outside (43%)

Why Get Girls in the Game?
For girls ages 7-17:
• 43.1% of girls don’t ever play a sport compared to 34.5% of boys
• Of the girls that do play sports, 36% of girls drop out compared to 30% of boys
Why does this happen?
• Lack of access
• Safety and Transportation
• Social Stigma
• Decreased quality of experience
• Cost
• Lack of positive role model
Why does this matter?
• Girls learn important skills: leadership, teamwork, learning from mistakes, handling pressure, decision-making, goal setting, and communication
• In the U.S. only 4.8% of CEO of Fortune 500 companies are women. 94% of women in the C-Suite played sports, 52% at a university level.
How does Asphalt Green help?
• Asphalt Green partners with schools in low-income neighborhoods that have limited access to organized sports. We administer the league at low cost to schools, and free for the participants, and provide kids with free uniforms, professional referees, equipment, and instructional clinics with Asphalt Green coaches.
• In 2025, Asphalt Green is committed to bringing more opportunities for girls to join sports. A new program we are excited to launch is AG's girls' community basketball league at The Post in Brooklyn! The league is set to start in March.
How can YOU make a difference?
By donating to Asphalt Green’s community programs, you help expand access to sports for girls across New York City. Your support enables more girls to start sports at a young age and stay active longer, fostering confidence, teamwork, and leadership skills along the way.
Asphalt Green is a 501(c)(3) tax-exempt organization, and your donation is tax deductible within the guidelines of U.S. law. Please keep your receipt as your official record. We'll email it to you upon successful completion of your donation.
