Many of the infections that school-age children are prone to are preventable through better sanitation and improved hygiene practices.
About our Project to Drill a Well
At Magodes Primary School in Tororo District, Uganda, over 1,200 students and teachers face a daily challenge: there is no water access on school grounds.
Why This Matters:
• In Uganda, only 42% of primary schools have water access on-site.
• Diarrheal diseases, caused by poor water and sanitation, account for 5% of deaths among children under five.
• Magodes students must walk nearly 1 kilometer to fetch water from a stream near a busy road, jeopardizing their safety and health
Without clean water for drinking or handwashing, the risk of illness and missed school days increases, hindering their ability to succeed. The WASH Foundation is committed to changing this.
With your help, we can build a borehole and rainwater harvesting system directly on school grounds, bringing safe, clean water to the Magodes community.
This project will:
• Provide clean water on demand for drinking and handwashing.
• Promote better hygiene and sanitation practices.
• Directly benefit over 1,200 students and teachers, including 595 girls.
• Support healthier, happier students who are ready to learn.
Access to water is a fundamental human right and essential to achieving Sustainable Development Goal 6 (Clean Water and Sanitation).
Together, we can ensure the students of Magodes Primary School have the water they need to stay healthy, safe, and focused on their education.
