Coastal Communities and a Greener Tomorrow

All around the world, women—especially those without secure land rights—are disproportionately impacted by climate change, and face greater risks of food insecurity, displacement, and loss of livelihood.

Roots of Resilience is a call to action to advocate for women and help secure the future of coastal communities. By equipping women of these communities with legal land titles, we can support them as they continue to steward their local environment.

With secure land rights, women have the power to:

Invest in their communities:

With legal rights to their land, women can invest in agriculture, fisheries, and other sustainable livelihoods that benefit their families and communities. A gift of $100 can help a community perform surveys to determine land plots and property lines, a necessary step in the process of titling and receiving legal ownership of their land.

Steward the local environment:

Women are often primary caregivers of their land and resources. With secure land rights, they can better protect natural resources and advocate for stronger environmental protections. A $50 gift supports efforts to improve community fishery policies, protecting mangrove forests and the thousands of people who rely on these critical nurseries of the sea.

Preserve their culture and way of life:

Rising sea levels, pollution, and deforestation have devastated mangrove forests, reducing local fish stocks and forcing many women to seek factory work to support their families. In Southeast Asia, land is deeply tied to culture. A $25 gift supports secure land rights, helping communities preserve their heritage, protect natural resources, and sustain traditional livelihoods.

The time to act is now.

Across Southeast Asia, women are working to protect the mangrove ecosystem on which they depend. Mangrove preservation is directly tied to the well-being of the community and the planet. Women of coastal communities are safeguarding their environment—working seven days a week, balancing factory work, fishing, and environmental advocacy. Their resilience is nothing short of inspiring and their efforts are critical to the health of our planet. Join us in supporting these women to plant their roots deeper, through legal land ownership.
