A Snapshot of Our Work

One of our staff members who has a love of photography wanted to share her skills with people with disabilities in Adelante’s day programs. What began with camera instruction and setting up a functioning dark room, turned into not only people gaining creative skills, but a brand-new way for people with disabilities to express themselves.

Families noticed positive changes, lots of excitement, and, for one nonverbal client, it gave them the ability to express and communicate like never before. Clients took photos all over town, developed their film into stunning black and white images, and had a gallery showing to highlight their efforts. Together, we made a difference.

The big picture goal at Adelante is to move our community forward.

Our work on behalf of people with disabilities, seniors, and disadvantaged populations has a positive impact on nearly 80,000 people a year. Donors like you are a key part of the picture. Your gifts can help people with disabilities be a part of the community, find jobs, or get computers for school and work. Your generosity makes a difference for seniors who need food or wheelchairs. Adelante is helping people move forward in their lives and YOU play an important part in that as a donor.

Snapshot in Courage
Adelante’s Back in Use program helped over 1,000 people get the wheelchairs and other assistive devices they needed this year. One example is Joe, who, after jumping from helicopters for many years, had an injured back and was having trouble getting around or being part of the community. Back in Use provided him with a free power wheelchair that allowed him to get around his house and go out with friends and family again. This man, who worked as a rescuer himself was helped thanks to your generosity.

Developing a Career
Stacy reached out to the DiverseIT team at Adelante to get a computer to help her with college. She has a processing disorder and needs to listen to lectures repeatedly to be successful. Adelante’s techs provided her with a computer that could record over 100 lectures and showed her how to transfer them to her desktop computer too, for longer storage if needed. She literally danced in the lobby at DiverseIT she was so thrilled to have this support. Your gifts make a difference like this every day at DiverseIT.

Reframing the Future
When Carol walked away from her past life to escape domestic violence, she found herself homeless and hopeless. She wanted something better for herself and her children, so she connected with a community partner and found her way to GiveABQ. Through this Adelante team she got a sofa, a kitchen table, and lots of housewares for her apartment, items that make it feel like home. Today, this little family has a place to eat dinner, do homework, or read a book, thanks to your donations.
