Meet Dr. Chand Rohatgi
Breast surgeon, Chand Rohatgi, MD, performed the first procedure at UF Health Spanish Plaines Hospital using MOLLI® technology. This wire-free system accurately marks breast lesion locations, enabling needle-less biopsies.
Dr. Rohatgi specializes in treating both cancerous and noncancerous breast conditions, promoting minimally invasive treatments. At UF Health Central Florida, we invest in cutting-edge technology to expedite our patients' recovery and help them get back to what matters most, sooner.
Mammography Efficiency Suite
Help us enhance our mammography efficiency suite to provide faster and more accurate screenings for early detection of breast cancer. By investing in this upgrade, we can streamline our processes, reduce wait times, and improve the overall experience for our patients. Your support will directly impact our ability to provide high-quality care and potentially save lives. Join us in making a difference in breast health - one upgrade at a time.
How can I support?
Join us at our Shimmering Lanterns of Hope event!
We welcome you on October 16 at 4:00pm at UF Health Leesburg Hospital Flag Plaza fountain for our free community event, and stay until 7:00pm for our lantern release, signifying hope for all!
With a donation of $25 or more, you can reserve a lantern in honor of a loved one affected by breast cancer. Purchase lanterns online with the link below and pick up at the event. Lanterns are also available for purchase at the hospital during our sock fundraiser days.
We will be joined by several UF Health Professionals as they provide information on breast health and host wellness demos.

Breast Surgery Frequently Asked Questions
Q: What conditions can be treated with breast surgery?
A: Breast surgeons can treat:
- Abscesses caused by mastitis
- Benign tumors like cysts or fibroadenomas, if they grow large or cause discomfort
- Inflammatory breast cancer
- Intraductal papillomas, or small growths in the milk ducts of the breasts that can cause nipple discharge and pain
- Invasive breast cancer, including ductal carcinoma and lobular carcinoma
- Metastatic breast cancer
- Noninvasive breast cancer or precancerous conditions, including ductal carcinoma in situ and lobular carcinoma in situ - Phyllodes tumors, fast-growing lumps that begin in the connective tissue of the breast that are typically benign but sometimes cancerous
- Radial scars
Q: What is breast reconstruction surgery?
A: Breast reconstruction includes surgical procedures performed to restore the breast’s natural appearance, shape, and size
after a mastectomy or for correction of changes, due to partial removal of the breast (lumpectomy). Breast reconstruction
may take place immediately after a mastectomy or lumpectomy or may be delayed.
Oncoplastic surgery combines the latest plastic surgery techniques with breast surgical oncology. When a partial breast
resection is required that would otherwise leave the breast distorted, the remaining tissue is sculpted and rearranged to
restore a more natural appearance to the breast shape and, oftentimes, the nipple-areolar complex. The opposite breast
will also be modified to create symmetry.
Q: What is a lumpectomy versus a mastectomy?
A: Lumpectomy is when only the breast cancer and tissue around the cancer are removed. This is also called breast
conservation therapy or partial mastectomy, where most of your breast will be left. Mastectomy is when all breast tissue is
removed.
