Meet Katelynn

Since February, Katelynn has been an enthusiastic participant in Lighthouse Central Florida’s Children’s Program. Despite being new, she quickly bonded with her peers and eagerly anticipates each upcoming event. Described as smart, sweet, and remarkably independent, Katelynn approaches every challenge with determination.

Recently diagnosed with Stargardt Disease, Katelynn is adapting to her vision loss. This genetic eye disorder leads to central vision loss, making it challenging to perceive colors and adjust to varying light conditions. The services offered in the Children’s Program are instrumental in helping her stay on par with her sighted peers.

Among the crucial skills taught in the program is self-advocacy, which Katelynn has already begun to master. Supported by her instructors, she confidently advocates for herself, such as requesting to wear sunglasses outdoors for eye protection.

Your generosity makes it possible for children like Katelynn to receive the support and resources they need to live beyond the restrictions of vision loss and blindness.
