BONE BUILDERS
Bone Builders is a FREE, low-impact weight training program designed to prevent and reverse osteoporosis. Bone Builders is based on research conducted by Tufts University and published in the Journal of American Medical Association. Their study showed that strength training just twice a week dramatically reduces the risk of fractures due to osteoporosis. After one year, participants gained bone density in their hip and spine, became stronger, improved their balance, and even felt happier!
“I’m pretty sure I’d be in a wheelchair by now if I didn’t have Bone Builders. I wouldn’t want to have to give it up,” says Bone Builders participant Edna Chagnon. “It’s been a great way to get out and see people. And people laugh! We laugh all the time at Bone Builders."
United Way recruits and trains volunteers, provides exercise equipment, and seeks out community partners willing to donate class space free of charge.
Our Commitment
United Way is looking to expand our Bone Builders class offerings. Your donation will help us promote healthy aging and strengthen social connections for older adults in Chittenden, Franklin, and Grand Isle Counties!
